The ceremony took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tokyo, as per the statement issued by the Embassy of Japan in Kathmandu.The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan appointed Yuichiro Miura, a well-known alpinist, skier and adventurer as Friendship Ambassador with the objective of promoting bilateral exchanges and friendship between Japan and Nepal, said the embassy.
Miura has skied down Mt. Everest and scaled the peak three times, breaking record for the oldest climber during the third time at the age of 80.
"Muira also acts as Goodwill Ambassador for the World Food Program (WFP) and was very active in the aftermath of the earthquake, collecting donations for much-needed supplies," it said.
According to the statement, after consulting with the government of Nepal, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan selected a logo to commemorate the 60th anniversary.
The logo, designed by Hiromitsu Kono, combines the national flowers and the tallest peaks of both the countries.
The governments of both countries have agreed to use the logo to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Nepal.
