Janakpur and Sonnet to vie for Shahid Cup title

KATHMANDU, April 2: Player of the match Bishal Sushling put up an all-round performance scoring an unbeaten 28 runs chasing the target of 114 runs after picking up two wickets to propel home team Janakpur Cricket Club to a five-wicket win against United Cricket Club during semifinal match of the 3rd Shahid T20 Cup played at Barahabigha cricket ground in Janakpurdham on Monday.

KATHMANDU, April 2: Player of the match Bishal Sushling put up an all-round performance scoring an unbeaten 28 runs chasing the target of 114 runs after picking up two wickets to propel home team Janakpur Cricket Club to a five-wicket win against United Cricket Club during semifinal match of the 3rd Shahid T20 Cup played at Barahabigha cricket ground in Janakpurdham on Monday.


Sushling smashed two sixes and a four during his 21-ball stay. He also had delivered four economical overs conceding 11 runs and picking up two wickets in the first innings to limit United at 113 runs for the loss of seven wickets at the end of 20 overs. He was supported by Kunal Kishor’s unbeaten 28 runs from 20 deliveries which included three boundaries. Birgunj’s Sohail Hawari and skipper Hasim Ansari shared a wicket each for the losing team.


Earlier, Saif Ali Hawari scored 34 runs supported by Raja Singh’s 24 at top of the innings for United who scored 113 runs in 20 overs. Hari Shankar Shah picked up two wickets followed by Ram Naresh Giri and Ranjan Yadav’s a wicket each.

Sonnet lifts 3rd Shahid Cup title


Kanpur’s Sonnet Cricket Club defeated Dharbhanga’s Rajputana Regiment by 12 runs to win the second semifinal match by 12 runs to secure the final clash with Janakpur on Tuesday. 


Shivan Dixit produced an inspiring performance picking up three wickets defending the lowly total of 101 runs. The chasing team Rajputana was all out for 89 runs in the 18th over. The player of the match Dixit was supported by Sufiyan Khan and Mohammad Bashid’s two wickets each. 


Similarly, Kshitiz Singh chipped with a wicket in Sonnet’s winning cause. Earlier, Sonnet’s opening batsmen Jimmy Chak top-scored with 30 runs. 


Rajputana’s Viswajeet Kumar was in red hot form picking up five wickets limiting Sonnet to 101 runs in 20 overs for the loss of all its wickets. 


Janakpur and Sonnet will vie for the trophy in the final match scheduled on Tuesday.
