The deceased have been identified as Chamare Rawal, 55, of Dime-5 and Amba Jaisi, 61, of Archhani-3. Rawal had been suffering from fever, cough and cold since the last five days, whereas Jaisi was diagnosed with asthma. They both died for lack of treatment.
The district health office (DHO) said hundreds of patients suffering from flu in Dime are receiving treatment. The epidemic started affecting the village since last week and has already claimed four lives in Archhani VDC alone.
Meanwhile, some 36 doctors have treated over 6,000 patients in 15 affected VDCs. Government officials have claimed that the epidemic will be brought under control soon.
Death toll in Jajarkot jeep accident climbs to 12
While the death toll from swine flu and seasonal flu is on the increasing in Jajarkot, the number of seasonal flu victims in neighboring Jumla district is rising as well.
Around 3,000 people have shown symptoms of seasonal flu in Jumla. Among them, some 500 have received treatment at Karnali Academy of Health Sciences within less than a month.
"On some days the hospital becomes crowded with flu patients," said Dr Niresh Thapa, medical director of the hospital.
Meanwhile, a medical team has been deployed in Tamti VDC of the district, which is considered most sensitive as it borders Jajarkot.
According to District Public Health Officer Baidha Nath Jha, 98 people in the village have been diagnosed with seasonal flu to date. He said flu victims are sent back home after general treatment, adding they are yet to come acoss any severe cases.
DHO Jumla has been organizing various awareness campaigns among the general public. Jha has instructed health workers to be on a state of high alert.
Swine flu in Chitwan continues to spread
Although the incidence of swine flu is supposed to decline during summer, the situation in Chitwan has not changed.
The temperature was 10-15 degrees Celsius when the flu outbreak first started in the district. With the daily temperatures now at 31-35 degrees, the outbreak is yet to show signs of weakening.
According to the DHO, the swine flu has fortunately not claimed any lives despite the increased number of patients. vector control inspector Ram KC said 19 more people have been diagnosed with flu of late. The total number of flu victims has now reached 156 in Chitwan alone. Test results for 18 more samples are yet to be received, said KC.
Dr. Bhoj Raj Adhikari of Bharatpur Hospital said the swine flu cases in the district are not so severe. "Most of the patients here can take Tamiflu medicine at home," he said.
