KATHMANDU, Dec 6: The government on Tuesday suspended the jailor at Bharatpur District Prison, chief of Chitwan police and other security officials over the attack on inmates inside the prison.

Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bijay Gachchhadar said at the parliament meeting on Tuesday that the government suspended Jailor Chudamani Sharma Paudel, district police chief SP Khinu Prasad Acharya and another security official Shiva Raj Regmi, among others.[break]

The home minister also informed lawmakers at the House that the government has formed a four-member committee led by Joint Secretary Shankar Koirala to probe into the attack. The probe committee will submit its report to the government in seven days.

Earlier in the day, lawmakers from the Nepali Congress (NC) had obstructed the parliament proceedings demanding action against the assailants and clarification from the home minister over the incident.

Speaker Subas Nembang had adjourned the House for around an hour after the NC Chief Whip Laxman Ghimire and lawmaker Mahendra Yadav of the same party announced to obstruct House proceedings.

NC lawmakers, however, allowed the proceedings to go on later after Gachchhadar made the announcement from the parliament rostrum.
