KATHMANDU, May 6: Internet Society Nepal (ISOCNepal) has provided three generators (5KV) to community radio stations that have been compelled to halt broadcast following the devastating earthquake.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday, the handover was part of the 'ReConnect Nepal' initiative launched by the ISOCNepal in collaboration with Internet Society Global. Community radio stations that received generators are: Radio Loktantra of Dhading, Radio Sindhu of Sindhupalchowk and Radio Gorkha of Gorkha.
"All these three radio stations had gone off the air after the earthquake cut off their communication channels and power supply," the statement added. Association of Community Radio Broadcasters (ACORAB) facilitated the handover of the generators to the radio stations. Speaking at the program, Bikram Shrestha, vice president of ISOCNepal, said the support is intended to reconnect affected people through these community radio stations.
"I believe community radio stations will be able to go on air and disseminate positive message at the local levels in these extremely challenging circumstances," the statement quoted Shrestha as saying. Earlier, ISOCNepal had supplied five generators to Nepal Telecom to restore their BTS towers in quake-hit areas in Sindhupalchok and Kavrepalanchok district and one generator to Nepal Police to provide power supply in relief camps, according to the statement.
