KATHMANDU, March 28: Contrary to the Office of the Controller of Examinations (OCE)´s promises of making this year´s School Leaving Certificate (SLC) exams disciplined, the exams have been marred by irregularities across the country.

On the third day of the SLC exams, dozens of guards mobilized for inspecting examinees were expelled across the country for helping the students to cheat. Likewise, dozens of examinees, some of them fake, were also taken into police custody. Even question papers were on sale in some districts. Examinees in Bara district even manhandled some reporters for not being able to cheat. [break]

According to our Siraha correspondent Mithilesh Yadav, three persons were injured in Siraha as examinees clashed with police, who resorted to firing tear gas shells to take the situation under control. Earlier, OCE had expelled 49 guards and fake examinees from Sukhipur, Bariyarpati and Aurahi exam centers of Siraha district.

Our Sunsari correspondent Amar Khadka reported that question papers of mathematics were openly put on sale within few minutes after the exam began. Guardians of examinees got to buy question papers and provide cheats to their respective students minutes after the exams kicked off. Question papers were available for Rs 50 to Rs 100. In some exam centers, guards themselves provided cheats to examinees.

Meanwhile, police arrested three persons in Sunsari for cheating. Police even filed a case against Ram Nanda Chaudhary, Dev Raj Dahal and Rabin Adhikari, all from Inaruwa, under Public Offense Act. They were arrested on Thursday on the charge of pelting stones at police.
