DHANGADHI, Oct 2: Local youth and students staged protest here Saturday claiming that there had been irregularities in the selection process of Nepal Army (NA)´s corporal post. They accused that candidates belonging to top army officials and other influential persons got through the selection process while suitable ones were kicked out.

A disqualified candidate Chitra Bahadur Bam accused that the aspirants for the post who did not meet the required criterion were also selected as few army officials influenced the selection process.

“I was told that my blood pressure was high. But when I checked it outside it turned out to be normal,” lamented Bam. “However, underweight candidates and also those wearing tattoos passed the selection test.”

Four student unions of Attaria-based Durga Laxmi Multiple Campus also protested irregularities in the selection process.

Barakh Battalion´s Chief Lieutenant Colonel Krishna Acharya dismissed allegations of irregularities in the selection process. A total of 2,774 applications were received in the battalion alone for 200 vacant posts.

In the far-western region, selection process has been going on at three places for 500 corporal posts.
