KATHMANDU, Dec 3: Independent Power Producers Association, Nepal (IPPAN) and Small Hydropower Developers Association of Nepal (SHDAN) on Friday asked the Ministry of Energy (MoE)´s to backtrack on its decision to halt the process of granting electricity generation licenses.

Issuing a statement, IPPAN and SDHAN argued MoE´s decision was against the spirit of Electricity Act 2049 and Electricity Regulations 2050.[break]

“We have felt that the decision has largely discouraged private investors. We urge the ministry to withdraw its decision at the earliest and resume the license granting process,” reads the statement.

A panel led by Minister for Energy Prakash Sharan had stopped the licensing process on November 23 saying the process needed a revision.
