KATHMANDU, March 23: Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has underscored the need to augment investment in quality and practical education.
Inaugurating a daylong seminar on 'New Vision on Management of Higher Education in Nepal' organized by the Shankar Dev Campus Alumnae here today, NC President Deuba said debate on quality education must be continued while demanding the establishment of new college and universities.
"There are many universities in Nepal. More universities are demanded when the quality in Tribhuvan University is waning. What's the meaning of education if there is no quality," he wondered, complaining that the universities set up in various places including Pokhara, Biratnagar, and Surkhet have failed to cater quality education.
On the occasion, NC Vice President Bimalendra Nidhi however said with the quality education, laws compatible within the time should be formulated.
Various others speaking at the programme including TU Vice Chancellor Tirtha Khaniya, Chairman of University Grants Commission, Prof Dr Bhim Subedi tried to assure that they were making utmost efforts to ensure quality education in higher studies.
The seminar holds rigorous discussion on quality education, educational policy and regulation and management of higher education throughout the day.
