Int'l Open Data Day marked

LALITPUR, Feb. 23: The International Open Data day has been marked for the first time in Nepal on Saturday.



It was informed at the program that an Open Nepal initiative was launched in Nepal to address the issue of availability, accessibility and use of data related to aid and other thematic areas by working on open data platform, case studies, capacity development and support, raising awareness and sharing lessons.



The Open Nepal is a collective effort of a coalition of organizations, including Freedom Forum, NGO Federation of Nepal, Young Innovations Pvt Ltd and the aidinfo program at Development Initiatives, that looks at catalyzing and supporting an ecosystem around transparency and access to information.



There were the stalls of the organizing bodies, which was visited by some 400 people including the researchers.



Chief Executive Officer at the Young Innovation Bibhushan Bista, said the program was organized to sensitize public including the tech-savvy community about open data and its importance in our country.



It is expected that the initiative would help boot the transparency regime making the public agencies accountable.
