The conference that started from Monday is being organised by the Small Earth Nepal in coordination with Consortium for Capacity Building, University of Colorado, USA and other one dozen national and international organisations where around 150 participated.[break]
During inaugural session, Jagadish Chandra Pokharel, Vice-Chairman of National Planning Commission (NPC), said that at a time when the world is experiencing the impacts of climate change, it is high time for the youths to act decisively to tackle the impacts of climate change. "Today´s young generation will be tomorrow´s policymakers. So, youths have the responsibility to work to find solutions of the ongoing changes happening in their own environment," he said.
Michael H. Glantz of University of Colorado, USA said that this international platform is a great opportunity to discuss on ways to get out of the mess created by climate change. "It the time for the youths to think about how to protect the future of this planet and cope with the changes being seen in their own local environment," he said.
Similarly, Madhav Bahadur Karki, deputy director general of International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) said that South Asia is facing multiple vulnerabilities due to climate change particularly in the Hind-Kush region, including Nepal. "Climate change is a complex issue. So, there is a need to enhance scientific understanding among the countries in this region to help to tackle the problem," he added.
