International Day of Older Persons 2023

KATHMANDU, Oct 1: International Day of Older Persons 2023 is being observed across the globe today.

On December 14, 1990, the United Nations passed a resolution to celebrate October 1 as the International Day of Older Persons.

This day is being celebrated around the world with the theme 'Fulfilling the Promises of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights for Older Persons: Across Generations.’

The Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizens, provincial governments, local governments and the National Federation of Senior Citizens are organizing various programs for the promotion of the rights and interests of senior citizens.

Meanwhile, in a message on the occasion of International Day of Older Persons, President Ramchandra Paudel has said that the senior citizens are a source of inspiration for knowledge, skills and experience. The current young generation should learn useful lessons from their lives.

He has also expressed the belief that if the knowledge, skills and experience of senior citizens can be passed on and used extensively, it will be of great help in maintaining economic prosperity and social stability.

President Paudel said that it is time to think about the protection of the rights, interests and welfare of senior citizens from the state level

In the message, he has also expressed the hope that the day inspires all to understand the importance of an ideal family based on the Eastern philosophy of having the guardianship of senior citizens and living together in the same family.

Calling on everyone to contribute to making the lives of senior citizens dignified and happy, President Paudel also wished good health, longevity and dignified life to all senior citizens living in the country and abroad.
