KATHMANDU, March 3: On the occasion of International Women's Day, a special interaction is set to be held in Khumbu region in Solukhumbu,  where the world's highest peak Mount Everest stands, to draw the world's attention to the impact of climate change on the lives of mountain people.

The event going to be organized on this 8th of March is said to be specially supported by the Embassy of United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Nepal, Nepal's Ministry of Forest and Environment, Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, UNDP, ICIMOD, NTNC, Baker’s Den, the local government concerned and other organizations.

Along with those working in the field of climate change and environment, on the occasion of International Women's Day on March 8 last year, a program was held at Kala Patthar on Mount Everest and the 'Kala Patthar Manifesto' was issued. Prajita Karki, president of the organization, said that this event is going to be held as per the plan to hold annual programs around the area after the 'Kala Patthar Manifesto'. She said that Deputy Speaker Indira Rana Magar, Supreme Court Judge Sapana Pradhan Malla, National Assembly member and former minister Dr Bimala Rai Paudyal, representatives of the UAE Embassy, experts and others will participate in the event.

"Through the program, we want to put pressure on the relevant bodies that Nepal, with leadership in the mountain issue, exposes the problems of this region at the international conference on climate change to be held in Dubai, UAE next year 9 COP-280", he said. President Karki said that on 8th March, a special interaction for climate justice will be held in the Khumbu area of Mount Everest in the presence of government and non-governmental experts working in the field of climate.

The aim of the program is to seek support from the international community to enable the mountain people, especially women, to face the challenges of climate change, to attract global attention to the challenges of climate change in the Himalayas and the lower coastal areas, and to draw attention to the concern that the mountains will melt due to global warming.

Likewise, the organization has announced that a national-level interaction titled "The Seriousness of Climate Change and Climate Justice" will be held in Kathmandu on March 17.
