KATHMANDU/CHITWAN, July 6: The recruitment process of former Maoist combatants, opting integration into Nepal Army (NA), could not take place on Friday as well following their dissatisfaction over the selection procedure, at all seven cantonments, including the Shaktikhor cantonment in Chitwan.
Brigadier General Ramindra Chhetri, spokesman for the NA told Republica Online that integration process at all seven cantonments have temporarily been halted over the issue of age of ex-combatants to be integrated into the national army. [break]
Saying that the selection process is being carried out just like the regular recruitment procedure in the army, the combatants have refused to take part in the selection process. The ex-PLA fighters have objected to the army counting their present age for integration, rather than the one verified by the UNMIN.
The ex-PLA fighters have created obstruction, bringing the entire selection procedure to a complete halt at all the seven cantonments. Some two hundred ex-combatants have staged demonstration to press for their demands at the Shaktikhor cantonment in Chitwan.
Narayan Baral, an ex-fighter, said they will not let the recruitment process move ahead unless their demands are met. They have also demanded that the integration process be carried out in a ´respectful´ manner.
