Inspection team seals meat shop

KATHMANDU, Sept 19: A market inspection team dispatched by the Department of Commerce (DoC) on Monday sealed Koteshwar-based Himal Meat Shop after it was found blending flour, animal intestines and soybean extracts to prepare sausage.



The shop was also found selling a packet of sausage at Rs 160, Rs 40 more than the original price.[break]



"We´ve taken samples from the shop for lab tests and directed the owner to furnish clarification at the department within three days," said Khilanath Baskota, director of DoC.



The shop was found operating without registering with concerned government agencies.



Meanwhile, the team also found a retail store in Kirtipur selling expired Sprite, Fanta, Mountain Dew, Mirinda and Pepsi. "We seized around 20 liters of expired beverages from the store," said Madan Kumar Chapagain, a food inspector.
