KATHMANDU, Oct 10: An art exhibition featuring sculptures by veteran sculptor Gopal Das Shrestha Kalapremi and Georgian sculptor Gigisha Pachkoria is underway at Siddhartha Art Gallery, Baber Mahal Revisited. The exhibition ‘Initiation’ kicked off on September 24.

The exhibit is being showcased at the Gallery’s ground floor and it features artworks in tea cups, pots, vessels and plates. These items are made of black ware, bear fire ceramic, raku ceramic and terracotta, among others.

A total of 29 items are displayed in sets of minimum two to maximum 17 artworks. These artworks are the result of one month long workshop. The sculptors have created simple to complex eccentric designs.

In a set of tea cups by Kalapremi, the items are arranged in beautiful colors and in various modern shapes and sizes. Using raku ceramic, he has created a set of five pots in different sizes and shapes which look more like a set of bowls in turquoise color.

In another set of tea cups, using black ware, he has created 17 different tea cups which are placed together while most of the cups are in black color.

Likewise, Gigisha’s works are different as compared to Kalapremi where the artist has experimented with textures. Vibrant colors such as red, blue and green, among others have been mixed to give an eccentric combination and an out of the world look. The use of various textures has also given Gigisha’s creations a unique appearance. Her artworks give the spectators a feeling of looking at outer space where the heavenly bodies are revolving round the sun.

The exhibition is slated to continue till October 11.
