Where in the world do employees work longer than 9 to 5? According to the OECD, the standard 40-hour week is certainly a myth in Turkey where 43 percent of employees put in a shift in excess of 50 hours per week. Indeed, people in Turkey work 1,855 hours a year – the OECD average is 1,765. Broken down by gender, 47 percent of men work over 50 hours each week compared with 33 percent of women.

29 percent of Mexican employees work more than 50 hours per week, along with 27 percent of South Koreans. The United States has developed a bit of a reputation as a nation of workaholics. Employees get a raw deal when it comes to vacation and they have to work more nights and weekends than people in other countries. Still, when it comes to putting in a shift in excess of 50 hours, it is a bit further down the scale, far behind the likes of Turkey and Mexico. 11.4 percent of American employees work over 50 hours per week.owrk.jpg
