The plight of Nepal has seen Britons digging deep into their pockets, with £14 million being raised from public donations in one day. With the Government donating a further £5 million, a total of £19 million has already been found to support the country where the earthquake claimed thousands of lives and turned towns to rubble. The groundswell of financial support was a recognition of the contribution made Nepalese Gurkha's to the British army over decades, with their heartlands being devastated by the earthquake. Already much of the aid is on the ground with 60 search and rescue experts on the ground looking for survivors. They have been helped by four search and rescue dogs.
