Inflation at 14.4 percent

KATHMANDU, Feb 6: At a time when the inflation rate worldwide is gradually easing, the domestic inflation rate during the first half of the current fiscal year has scaled up to an alarming level of 14.4 percent against the rate of 5.8 percent recorded during the same period last year.



According to price inflation released by Nepal Rastra Bank, the prices of food items went up by 18.3 percent while the price rise of non-food items remained at 10.3 percent during the period. The price rises of food and non-food items were 7.3 percent and 4.2 percent respectively same period last year.



The inflation rate during the first five months of the current fiscal year was 14.1 percent. The budget for the current fiscal year has targeted to limit domestic inflation rate at 7 percent.
