Chairman of National Foundation for Development of Indigenous Nationalities, Jhak Bahadur Thapa Magar formally inaugurated the program on Wednesday. He said, “It is 25 years since indigenous people first made a film. During this period of time, many films have been made and awareness has also increased among the indigenous people.”[break]
Directors and producers of the first films in nine different languages were honored in the event. Mugal community’s film ‘Solji’, director Toma Lama and producer, Amgyal Lama; Limbu film ‘Tarewa’, director Navin Subba and producer, Shova Khojum; Magar film ‘Langhan’, director Yuvraj Maski Rana Magar and producer, D B Pulami Magar; Tharu film ‘Karam’, director Pashuram Chaudhary and producers, Ramlal Chaudhary and Renu Chaudhary; Tamang film ‘Sewarichornan’ and director Jaynand Lama and producer Punyasagar Yonzon Lama; Bantawa Rai film ‘Sayabung’, director Dik Bantawa and producer Manju Rai; Sunuwar film ‘Syadarpidar’, director Amrit Sunuwar and producer Hanok Sunuwar; Gurung film ‘Pate’, director Yuvraj Maski Rana Magar and producer Rodi family; Newar film ‘Silu’, director Pradeep Rimal and producer Prem Baniya were honored.
On the first day of the festival, ‘Silu’, ‘Karam’ and ‘Tarewa’ were screened and films like ‘Solji’, ‘Langhan’, ‘Sewarichornan’ and ‘Sayabung’ will be screened on the next day. Aljajeera Film Festival’s award recipient Ashok Thapa Magar will also share his experiences as a film producer.
