KATHMANDU, Oct 27: In a warm and festive reception, the Embassy of India in Kathmandu extended a hearty welcome to the Nepali National Cricket Team, led by Captain Rohit Paudel, and key executive members of the Cricket Association of Nepal. The event was a celebration of camaraderie and cooperation between the two nations.

During the gathering, ambassador of India to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, presented a set of professional sporting equipment to the Nepali National Cricket Team, including 20 cricket bats sourced from Sareen Sports. This generous gesture took place in the presence of prominent figures in Nepali cricket, such as Cricket Association of Nepal President Chatur Bahadur Chand and Secretary Paras Khadka.

The sporting equipment was graciously offered on behalf of the BP Koirala India-Nepal Foundation and SJVN Ltd, a prominent public sector undertaking under the Government of India. In a reciprocal gesture, the Nepali Cricket Team presented the Ambassador with a jersey signed by the team, symbolizing the strong bond shared between the two nations.

Ambassador Srivastava commended the Nepali national cricket team for its commendable performance, notably in the recent Asia Cup and Asian Games. He emphasized that this act of goodwill strengthens the robust people-to-people ties between India and Nepal. The ambassador extended his best wishes to the cricket team as they prepare for the upcoming tri-nation T20 Cup Finals and the ICC-T20 World Cup Qualifiers scheduled for the end of the month.

President of the Cricket Association of Nepal, Chatur Bahadur Chand, Secretary Paras Khadka, and the cricket team's Head Coach, Monty Desai, expressed their deep gratitude to the embassy, BP Koirala India-Nepal Foundation, and SJVN Ltd. They hailed the equipment handover as the beginning of a promising journey of collaboration between the embassy and the Cricket Association of Nepal.

It is worth noting that the Embassy of India in Kathmandu had previously supported the Cricket Association of Nepal in 2013 by providing a bus. Additionally, through the BP Koirala India-Nepal Foundation, they also assisted the Nepal Deaf Cricket Team in participating in a triangular cricket tournament held in Kolkata in April-May 2023.
