KATHMANDU, Dec 19: India’s Lok Sabha, the lower house of parliament, on Monday reportedly adopted a motion to suspend 33 Members of Parliament (MPs) as the opposition continued to protest, demanding a statement by home minister Amit Shah on the December 13 security breach in the lower house.

While 30 of them were suspended for the remainder of the winter session, three were suspended pending the report of the Privileges Committee, reports the Hindu.

Meanwhile, the Hindustan Times reported that India’s upper house of parliament -- Rajya Sabha -- also adopted a motion moved by union minister Piyush Goyal, seeking suspension of 45 MPs over alleged "misconduct".

"34 MPs have been suspended. The case of 11 MPs has been referred to the Privilege Committee. A total of 45 Rajya Sabha MPs have been suspended today. They did not want the House to run smoothly, this was their pre-planned strategy," the newspaper quoted Goyal as saying.

According to the Hindy, police investigators probing the parliament’s security breach have found pieces of broken and charred cell phones in Nagaur, Rajasthan. In the four days since the security breach, the police have arrested six persons: Manoranjan D, Sagar Sharma, Amol Shinde, Neelam Devi, Lalit Jha and Mahesh Kumawat, added the newspaper.

The winter session of India’s parliament is expected to continue till December 22.
