India reports two COVID-19 deaths, 257 infections

Doctors at King Edward Memorial (KEM) Hospital in Mumbai, India, confirmed on Tuesday that two COVID-19-positive patients had died. However, they clarified that chronic pre-existing illnesses, not COVID-19, caused the deaths.

Health Ministry urges caution


KATHMANDU, May 21: Doctors at King Edward Memorial (KEM) Hospital in Mumbai, India, confirmed on Tuesday that two COVID-19-positive patients had died. However, they clarified that chronic pre-existing illnesses, not COVID-19, caused the deaths.

The 59-year-old male patient had oral cancer, while a 14-year-old girl was battling nephrotic syndrome, a kidney-related illness.


Between January 1 and May 19, India's Ministry of Health reported 257 COVID-19 cases nationwide. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) assured the public that the situation remains under control and urged people not to panic.


The Health Ministry advised citizens to wear masks and keep their booster vaccinations up to date.


A new wave of COVID-19 has recently surfaced across Asia. Rising cases in Singapore, Hong Kong, China, and Thailand have raised regional concern. Health experts attributed the surge to weakened immunity and increased large gatherings.
