Operation of around one thousand public vehicles has come to a halt in the east while thousands of their staffs were left high and dry.
The direct impact of banda has been felt in the markets of eastern hilly districts when the public vehicles including the cargo trucks were disrupted. Taplejung and other hilly districts began to feel the shortage of daily consumer goods.
Following the regular strike, revenue collection was also affected. According to Customs Office, Kakadbhitta, revenue collection has come down by Rs. 20 million just in the last four days.
The government offices were empty in absence of service recipients while hotels and restaurants were rarely visited by customers.
The banda also affected the educational sector, market, and industrial activities in the districts.
The life in the eastern districts, Jhapa, Ilam, Panchthar, Taplejung, Dhankuta, Sankhuwasabha, and Terathum were badly affected while there was nominal impact in Morang and Sunsari.
The civil society leaders demanded that the government take initiative to hold dialogue with the agitating force and resolve the problem at the earliest.
