Basnet, Ghimire win Mercantile golf
KATHMANDU: Kanchan Basnet and Aditi Ghimire won the men´s and women´s titles of the Third Mercantile Acer Golf Tournament at the Royal Nepal Golf Club on Saturday. Basnet claimed the title on countback after he was tied on 36 points with Gopal Chitrakar. In the women´s section, 14-year-old Ghimire also won the title on countback following a tie with Els Schapendonk on 36 points. Neeraj SJB Rana took home the best gross award with 30 points and also carded three birdies to win the award for most birdies. In the senior section, CB Gurung secured first position with 34 points finishing ahead of Singha Bahadur Basnyat. Prem Gurung won the longest drive award, Pradeep Kumar Shrestha bagged the closest-to-the-pin award and Binay Raj Pandey took the best sportsmanship award. Altogether 48 golfers had taken part in the two-day event.
Swimming qualifiers for World Championship
KATHMANDU: Nepal Swimming Association (NSA) is organizing the 18th National Open Swimming Championship on Monday and Tuesday to select swimmers for the FINA World Swimming Championship. According to NSA President Ashok Bajracharya, three players will get chance to participate in the world championship to be held in Barcelona, Spain from July 19 to August 4. One player each in men´s and women´s sections will be selected on the basis of FINA points while another player with the best timing will also get to compete in the event. The swimmers will compete in events of more than 100 meters distance.
