BAGLUNG, July 22: Former Home Minister and UML vice-chairman Bam Dev Gautam has claimed that former home ministers including himself weren´t involved in the Sudan scam.

His statement comes at a time when the Special Court has been asking for huge sums in security deposit from those who are accused in the scam, leading many top police officials to jail. [break]

Speaking at a program organized to mark the 33rd memorial day of Puspa Lal Shrestha, founding general secretary of the communist party, Gautam said, “High level police officers were given the responsibility to purchase the Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs) and other logistics. So, there is no involvement of political leaders and home ministers.”

He clarified even though the APCs and logistics were kept in the offices of home ministry, he was informed about it at a later stage.

“Home minister hasn´t signed anywhere at the policy level. Police authorities purchased the APCs from Police Welfare Fund,” he said.
