KATHMANDU, Sept 23: It has been found that there are nine hundred illegal boreholes that are currently in operation in Kathmandu valley. According to the management board of Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited (KUKL), it has been found through new technology that these boreholes have been constructed disregarding the rule. According to the engineer of the board, Bodh Raj Dahal, more than 1200 boreholes have been drilled for water extraction.
As per the data, only three hundred 33 boreholes have been renewed by the end of last fiscal year for the operation, whereas remaining most of them could not be forwarded for the renewal lacking in criteria. Among nine hundred boreholes, few have not been registered whereas some of them have fallen in the category of household use.
