Ilam Bazar tense after youth's murder

BIRATNAGAR, April 19: Illam district headquarters remained tense throughout Sunday after a youth was killed in course of a fight between local youth on Saturday night. Ranjit Dewan of Ilam Municipality-6, Tilkeni, was killed in course of a bitter fight between the rival groups.



Irate kin of the slain youth staged demonstrations in Ilam Bazar from early morning on Sunday, forcing businesses and academic institutions remain shut. Tension escalated further after agitating locals started making physical assaults against the other locals accused of involvement in the murder.



Two youth -- Dinesh Rai and Surendra Rai – were critically injured in Saturday night’s clash and they are currently undergoing treatment in Dharan. Agitating locals vandalized the office of ruling Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) in Ilam.



Meanwhile, police arrested five youths including Yogendra Siwakoti, Badri Limbu, Nishan Rimal, Kul Prasad Shiwakoti and Shyam Prasad Siwakoti in connection with Dewan’s murder.
