KATHMANDU, Aug 27: The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) will provide immediate assistance of Rs 189.62 million, equivalent to $1.2 million, for search, rescue and rehabilitation efforts following the devastating floods in the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers triggered by flooding from Tibet.

The IFRC said Red Cross volunteer emergency response teams are already active in the affected areas, carrying out search, rescue and relief operations. It also called for continued efforts to respond to the disaster.
IFRC Secretary General Jagan Chapagain said the financial assistance was being provided to strengthen the response to the Bhotekoshi flood and deliver immediate humanitarian aid.
In a statement posted on social media, Chapagain said, “IFRC, in coordination with the Nepal Red Cross and national authorities, stands ready to mobilise additional support for communities as needed. Humanitarian assistance will continue.”
He said Red Cross volunteers were actively working in affected communities and providing initial relief and assistance.
Chapagain expressed grief over the loss of lives, people reported missing and extensive property damage caused by the floods and extended condolences to the families of the victims.
