ICC World Cup trophy arrives in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU, Oct 26: The ICC World Cup trophy has been brought to Nepal on Friday as part of the ICC Cricket World Cup Trophy Tour ahead of the world cup in England and Wales from May 30 to July 14, 2019. The coveted prize that began its journey from the ICC headquarters in Dubai got to Nepal after many stops in Oman, the United States of America, West Indies, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates. 

Sponsored by Nissan company, people around the globe can have a chance to get a look at the trophy. The cup, which will be presented in 60 cities of the total 21 counties, was made public at Swayambhu in Kathmandu Friday evening amid a programme attended by a dense crowd of the people who gathered there to see it. 

According to Bhawana Ghimire, ICC's Nepal representative and former executive officer at the Cricket Association of Nepal, the trophy would be taken to the Pokhara Cricket Ground for display on Saturday morning. 

"The trophy will to be displayed at Phewa Lake, Sarangkot, Rupa Lake and Begnas Lake as far as possible, and be brought back to Kathmandu the same evening," said Ghimire. It will be put on display at Basantapur Durbar Square on Sunday where fans and people can have photographs with it before being presented at Chandragiri the same day, she added.
