KATHMANDU, June 19: The ICC T20 World Cup Super 8 stage begins today.

The first match features South Africa against the USA, starting at 8:15 PM Nepali time on Wednesday.

South Africa, unbeaten in the group stage with all eight matches won, emerged as the winner of Group D with four victories and is a strong contender for the World Cup. Their journey to the Super 8 included a 6-wicket win over Sri Lanka, a 4-wicket win against the Netherlands, a narrow 4-run victory over Bangladesh, and a thrilling 1-run win against Nepal.

The USA, from Group A, won two matches and shared points in one. They defeated Canada by 7 wickets in the first match, won a super over against Pakistan in the second match, lost to India by 7 wickets in the third match, and shared points with Ireland in the fourth. The USA reached the Super 8 as the runner-up of their group with five points.

The first clash of the Super 8 between host USA and South Africa is anticipated to be highly interesting.

Eight teams are competing in the Super 8 stage. Group A includes India, Australia, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh, while Group B consists of South Africa, USA, West Indies, and England. The top team from each group will advance to the semi-finals.
