IBN’s plan for running electric buses on Valley’s ring road, feasibility study soon

KATHMANDU, Sept 19: The Investment Board Nepal (IBN) has stepped up its efforts to run electric buses on the ring road of the Kathmandu Valley.


According to the IBN, it has prepared the terms of reference to carry out a feasibility study on the proposed project. The board has come up with the ‘Electric Bus Rapid Transit in Ring Road of Kathmandu Valley’ plan to operate electric vehicles on the 27.30 km long ring road .

A preliminary study carried out by the IBN shows an estimated investment of Rs 20 billion will be required to materialize the transport project. Amrit Lamsal, spokesperson for the IBN, said the construction of the infrastructure required for the project will cost around Rs 10 billion.


The project to be constructed under the public-private-partnership model will build 27 bus stations. Under the plan, an average of 75 electric buses will be operated on the ring road.  


According to Lamsal, the board will call for a tender to prepare a detailed project report once the feasibility study concludes.
