KATHMANDU, June 17: Shree Narayan Singh Rajput, who lost his son in the Rajpur bomb blast in Rautahat, has taken his fight for justice to the highest body of Nepal's judicial system in Kathmandu.

Dissatisfied with the High Court's decision to acquit the accused previously convicted by the District Court, 84-year-old Rajput has filed a complaint at the Judicial Council demanding an investigation into the judges involved.

Disheartened by the acquittal, Rajput continues to fight alone in Kathmandu, determined to prove that justice is not dead. Speaking to Republica, he said, “As long as I breathe, I will fight for justice. As long as I live, this struggle will go on.”

On April 16, 2024, the Rautahat District Court had sentenced the main accused, Mohammad Aftab Alam, to life imprisonment. However, in response to an appeal, a bench of judges Khushi Prasad Tharu and Arjun Maharjan at the temporary bench of the High Court Janakpur in Birgunj acquitted Alam and others.

According to the petition filed by Rajput at the Judicial Council, the verdict in such a serious case — consisting of about 1,200 pages of case files and evidence — was delivered after only four hours of hearing, and on the grounds that “the incident did not occur,” which he claims indicates ill intention.

In his petition, he accuses the judges of completely ignoring eyewitness testimonies, physical evidence, and even previous rulings by the Supreme Court.

Rajput said that while his faith in the judicial system has weakened, he still holds hope in divine justice. “I still have hope. Even if the court doesn’t deliver justice, God surely will,” he says.

While in Kathmandu, he has visited the Office of the Attorney General and other concerned bodies to inform them about the injustice he faced. “I told the secretary of the Judicial Council that I have been wronged and they said they would look into it.”
