KATHMANDU, Oct 1: Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Saturday said he was under compulsion to form a government led by party Vice-chairman Baburam Bhattarai.

Addressing a function organized by the Nepal National Intellectual Organization District Working Committee in Kathmandu, Dahal said, “Being the chairman I had the responsibility to form Bhattarai-led government. I would have been held responsible if Bhattarai-led government had not been formed,” said Dahal. [break]

On a separate note, Dahal has urged all not to make unnecessary comments on the remarks made by the defense minister. “The defense minister´s party has sought an apology over the remark. It is not good to prolong the issue unnecessarily.”

However, Dahal said the remark of defense minister hurt the sentiments of patriotic citizens. “The defense minister has committed a grave mistake. The government and political parties should make public their stance clear on the issue.”

Dahal said that his party wants Bhandari to rectify his mistakes. He reiterated that the UCPN (Maoist) being the largest party in the Constituent Assembly (CA) is committed to drafting the new constitution and concluding the peace process on time. He also expressed confidence that army integration and the remaining tasks of constitution writing would be completed in the next two months.
