KATHMANDU, Dec 13: Nepali Congress (NC) presidential candidate Prakash Man Singh has said that he had to field his candidacy as the current leadership of the party proved to be incompetent to lead the Nepali Congress (NC).

Singh said that the situation was created as NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba had failed to hold the general convention on time, delayed distribution of active membership, and even misused the party's constitution.

“This active membership distribution was also delayed due to incompetence of the leadership and inability of the party to perform the functions directed by the statue. The General Convention has been held after the expiration of the term by following the rules,” Singh said.

The 14th General Convention of NC is currently underway at Bhrikuti Mandap in Kathmandu. The voting process to elect the NC’s new office-bearers and members is currently underway at the National Assembly and Bhrikuti Mandap.

Incumbent Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba,  Dr Shekhar Koirala, Prakash Man Singh, Kalyan Kumar Gurung, Bimalendra Nidhi are among those contesting for the post of party’s president.
