Responding to queries about his loyalty to Nepal as a person who stayed in USA for more than four decades, he said he joined Fijian university in 2002 only after his request to various university and Nepal Rastra Bank officers did not respond to his request.
"I have never given up Nepali passport and I have received green card only four years back because of my obligation to visit to my families in Washington DC during my service in Fiji," he said. "I have stayed in the USA only for eight months since I received the green card."
He said he visited Nepal more than 50 times in 40 years and he still has a home, sisters and relatives in Ekrahi village of Dhanusha.
Shah said he would push forward economic diplomacy for economic development of the country once he is appointed to the ambassadorial position. He said he would improve the condition of Nepali embassy in Washington DC. "I just want to tell you that I have comparative advantage to many people eligible to this job because of my knowledge, long experience and relation (with international economic institutions),|" he said.
Shah said he was not offered the job because of his intimacy with a particular party or a leader but because of his experience in the diplomatic field for long and wide range of relations with Nepali leaders.
He claimed Nepal and its people will benifit more from his appointment than he personally benefits from it.
Lawmakers asked him to clarify a number of queries including the charge against him of exploiting labor of his domestic help, failing to fulfil his commitment to return to Nepal Rastra Bank job and others.
The committee was scheduled to conduct hearing on all the three appointees--Shah, Ram Swartha ray and Suresh Pradhan on Tuesday but because of time constraints, hearing on Ray and Pradhan was postponed till Wednesday morning.
