KATHMANDU, May 27: Amid the widening intraparty rift within the ruling CPN-UML, Gorkarna Bista, a member of the dissolved parliament and a key leader of the party, has said that he will make honest efforts until the last hour to resurrect the party as it was on May 16, 2018 and save party unity.

Bista, who was party secretary of the UML before it signed a merger deal with the CPN (Maoist Center) to form the Nepal Communist Party (NCP), took to Facebook earlier on Thursday and stated that only a strong and united party adopting the right ideas and policies to safeguard the nation, people, democracy and the communist movement can discharge the important responsibilities.

Bista is among a few second-rung leaders in the party who have been making desperate efforts to keep party unity intact.

The intraparty row in the UML has further worsened as the Standing Committee relieved 11 leaders of the party including senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal and sought clarifications from 12 other leaders for their involvement in supporting Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba as the prime minister on May 21.
