KATHMANDU, Dec 23: CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that the ruling alliance will not break because of the US-funded Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) compact agreement.

In an interview with News Agency Nepal (NAN), he said, “I don't think the alliance will break down because of MCC. It will not break. It should not be broken for that reason and it should not be allowed to be broken.”

He mentioned that we are not in a position to reject foreign aid or grants. “We have been accepting, taking grants. Now we should gladly accept the assistance that comes in the form of grants for the construction of our physical infrastructure.”

He further added that amendments should be made when necessary. “The provisions that seem to bother us should be corrected,” Dahal said. “Since this issue has become more serious and sensitive, it is necessary to try to reach an understanding even among the political parties.”

He suggested that the issue can be taken forward only by establishing an understanding nationally with the opinion of intellectuals, journalists and citizens. “If it is forced, it will create a difficult situation,” said Dahal.
