Hyundai Elantra, an economic yet luxury sedan, is going to be in the market by January. In the beginning of 2012, Laxmi Intercontinental, the authorized distributor of Hyundai vehicles for Nepal, is launching Hyundai Eon and Hyundai Elantra within the same month.[break]
Elantra is going to cost more than Hyundai Accent but less than Hyundai Sonata. “We haven’t yet finalized the number of variants we are introducing and the price but it will be in between Rs 3.5 million and Rs 4 million,” said Rupesh Sharma Bhatta, senior manger for planning & development at Laxmi Intercontinental.
The 1500 cc car will have Toyota Corolla, Skoda Laura, Mazda 3, Kia Cerato and Honda Civic as its major competitors. “We have set managerial level people as our target group. However, we have not yet decided the sales target,” said Bhatta.
The company stated that the fifth generation Elantra’s styling, power output, fuel efficiency, comfort and safety features have all been upgraded. “It has a sportier and even more progressive image than its predecessor. The Elantra will also offer class-leading performance and fuel efficiency,” said Bhatta.
Hyundai Elantra is equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission system. “The all-new six-speed automatic transmission is the world’s first to be designed for engine applications in small mid-sized passenger cars,” Bhatta said. It also has safety features like VSM (Vehicle Stability Management), EPS (Electronic Stability Program) and six airbags.
The car is also known as Hyundai Avante in different markets. It was launched in India in May 2011 and is doing very good in the market till date. “From the year 2012, Hyundai expects to sell 400,000 units annually in overseas markets and we are sure we can contribute to it by selling a good numbers of car in Nepal,” said Bhatta.
