Inaugurating the Assembly, Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Kedar Nath Upadhyay said the human rights of Nepalis from diverse professions was pushed to peril because the politics in Nepal has been far removed from the day-to-day life of the people.[break]
Chairman Upadhyay further said as the political parties have failed to conclude the peace process and write constitution on time, the human rights of Nepali people has been violated.
"The main responsibility of solving people´s problems is of the political parties," he added.
The impunity was yet to be put to an end in the country as no action was taken against those involved in making the people disappeared.
Similarly, human rights defenders Daman Nath Dhungana and Charan Prasain said until the human rights-friendly constitution was made, impunity could not be ended. The country was in dire straits in terms of human rights because people´s rights to live in freedom was shrinking day by day.
Also speaking o the occasion were chairperson of Network of Women Rights Defenders, Dr Renu Rajbhandari and Malla K Sundar. They stressed on formulating human rights friendly constitution at the earliest.
Various forty stalls of the organization working in the sector of human rights have been kept in Assembly. The Assembly will last for three days.
