TAPLEJUNG, April 4: The tunnels of the under-construction hydropower project in Sirijanga Rural Municipality of Taplejung, have started achieving breakthroughs one after another. The Headrace Tunnel (HRT) of the Kabeli-3 hydropower project, with a capacity of 21.93 MW, has achieved a breakthrough.
According to Meghnath Dhungana, Public Relations Officer of the project, the construction work on the 1,875-meter-long tunnel commenced on May 25, 2023, and achieved breakthrough on the evening of March 31, 2024. With this milestone, the project has announced that 70 percent of the construction work has been completed.

Kabeli Hydropower Company Limited is the promoter of the Kabeli-3 hydropower project, which is utilizing the water of the Kabeli River flowing through Sirijunga Rural Municipality-5, Pedang-6 Mamankhe, and Ward No 7 Khewang. Just a few days ago, the HRT tunnel of the 12 MW Super Kabeli Khola A Cascade hydropower project also achieved a breakthrough.
