How was your Dashain?

It’s been really hectic this Dashain. I was busy shooting for my upcoming film “Miss U” in Malaysia, and I managed to arrive just in the nick of time for Tika. But since the shooting sessions were still incomplete, I couldn’t thoroughly enjoy the festivities.

I was busy with the homework for the film, and my mind was always preoccupied.[break] It was like a bad hangover I couldn’t shake off. (Laughs)

My Dashain holidays started pretty late by normal standards. I guess it’s an occupational hazard of working in media. Let’s just say it was short and sweet. My friends and I organized house parties.

I’m blessed with a mother whose culinary skills are extraordinary, and she’s pretty famous amongst my friends’ circle. So the first one was at my house. We had a “changachet” program. All the guys were busy with their kites while us, the gang of girls, caught up with latest goss.

It was a blessed Dashain, surrounded by family and friends. The celebrations were the same: good food, and gatherings. But all credits go to my children for making it extra special.

Saptami was like a hike across the Valley, visiting various Shakti-peeths; while on Navami, it was family affair at my brother’s place with loads of catching up to do. The day of Tika was pretty busy, went around receiving tikas and blessings from elders.

However, I did feel the pinch of inflation, as the prices of daily amenities made it a very costly Dashain. It was like a bad aftertaste.

My Dashain was lonely. I was supposed to go on a trek to Langtang. But the weather played the villain and I was stuck at home, alone. All of my family members left for Kalimpong. I had stayed back to go on the trek, but my plan was all foiled.

Well, Dashain is supposed to be fun, but mine didn’t have anything interesting in it. I spent it with disappointment.

Nothing can beat Dashain in Dharan – my hometown. The fun quotient was super high. I had a blast partying with family and friends. The festivities totally engrossed me. I was out with friends, playing swings, and visiting various fairs organized in my locality.

Besides, the visit to Bhedetar was really memorable. I enticed my palette with various delicacies. Mutton kababs were easily my best dish of the trip.

Manjul, Poet

Well, my Dashain was imbued with happiness and joy. I met some really fine people and enjoyed their company. But I was pretty disturbed by the rise in inflation. My heart goes out to all those who were unable to afford good food and clothing.

Despite the festive vibes, I couldn’t shake off my disappointment regarding the state of the government which couldn’t do anything to provide some respite. But my pen did find some inspiration, and I penned poems throughout Dashain.
