KATHMANDU, August 31: The Impeachment Recommendation Committee has started grilling suspended Chief Justice (CJ) Cholendra SJB Rana. The committee started recording Rana’s statement in the meeting room of the Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee at Singhadurbar on Wednesday.

Journalists were sent outside after taking photos and videos of CJ Rana attending the committee meeting. Earlier, there was a debate in the Impeachment Recommendation Committee on whether to take the statement in a closed room or openly. Due to which the summoning of CJ Rana for him to defend the charges leveled against him was delayed. CPN-UML MP Krishna Bhakta Pokhrel, who is also a member of the committee, was of the opinion that the activity should be carried out in an open space.

The Impeachment Recommendation Committee is going to ask 43 questions to the suspended CJ Rana. According to the committee, as many as 43 questions have been readied for Rana.

Last Wednesday, the committee summoned Rana, giving him an opportunity to defend himself against the charges leveled against him. Rana reached Singhadurbar to register his statement at 11AM this morning. He was automatically suspended after the MPs of the ruling party registered the impeachment motion against him on February 13.
