KATHMANDU, Aug 30: The Industry, Commerce and Consumer Welfare Committee (ICCWC) under Legislature-Parliament has directed the government to effectively run fair price shops during the upcoming Dashain, Tihar and Chhath festivals.

The today's meeting of the ICCWC issued directives to this effect in a bid to provide essentials, at subsidized price, to especially people affected by the earthquake that struck the country on April 25, 2015 and people from various parts of the country including Kathmandu during the festivals.

The efforts by the government come amid reports of rising black marketeering of essentials especially during previous festivals.

In response, Minister for Industry Som Prasad Pandey, at the meeting, assured that smooth supply of essentials would be made during the festive season and elaborative measures would be taken to discourage possible black market.

Likewise, Ministry Secretary Shreedhar Sapkota pledged to implement the ICCWC directives while focusing on market management and monitoring. RSS
