KATHMANDU, Jan 26: Opposition parties continued to obstruct parliamentary proceedings on the fourth consecutive day on Thursday demanding that the government scrap a recent cabinet decision on legalizing the land transactions done under the arbitration of the ´people´s government´ of erstwhile Maoist rebels during the insurgency period.

Speaker Subas Nembang adjourned the House meeting as lawmakers from major opposition Nepali Congress (NC), CPN-UML and other fringe parties remained standing. [break]

Prior to that, NC lawmaker Ramesh Lekhak and UML´s Bishnu Paudel demanded that the parliament proceedings be halted as the government didn´t listen to the opposition parties´ voices.

"No proceedings can take place in this parliament until the government revokes the decision and the prime minister himself informs the House to this effect," said Lekhak in the parliament on Thursday.

UML´s Paudel echoed him and lawmakers of the fringe parties backed the NC and the UML. Speaker Nembang had earlier issued ruling drawing the government´s attention to the situation in parliament saying that the opposition parties´ concerns can´t remained unanswered.

The next House meeting is scheduled for Friday.
