KATHMANDU, Jan 10: The parliament meeting was adjourned for half an hour on Monday due to lack of quorum.

The House was scheduled to endorse a proposal to register amendment on Local Level Election Bill and Election Offence and Punishment Bill.

One fourth of the total number of lawmakers or 149 lawmakers should be present in the House sitting to endorse any proposal. Only 116 lawmakers were present during Monday's meeting when Speaker Onsari Gharti instructed the parliament secretariat for head count.

Lawmaker of Nepal Workers and Peasants Party (NWPP) Dilli Kafle had demanded the head count.

According to parliament secretariat, altogether 404 lawmakers had signed on the attendance sheet on Monday. Most of the Members of Parliament had skipped the meeting after appearing for a short period.  After the head count, chief whips of major political parties called lawmakers from their respective parties to the House. Another meeting held after half an hour endorsed the two bills after securing quorum.

The House meeting had resumed regular business only on Sunday after over a month of obstruction from opposition lawmakers.
