KATHMANDU, June 23: The legislature-parliament could not enter the formal agenda on Tuesday as well after protest by the Unified CPN (Maoist) lawmakers.

However, Maoist lawmakers allowed their lawmakers from other political parties to speak during the special hour.

The Maoists have been disrupting the parliamentary proceedings protesting what they call the “extra-constitutional move” by President Ram Baran Yadav to reinstate army chief Rookmangud Katawal on May 3. The then Maoist-led government had decided to sack Katawal.

On Monday, Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal had held talks with Unified CPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushapa Kamal Dahal and Nepali Congress leaders for resumption of the parliament. They were scheduled to hold meeting on Monday morning, but the meeting could not take place due to busy schedules of the leaders. “The parties will hold a meeting Wednesday morning to end the deadlock,” said Maoist leader Post Bahadur Bogati.

Speaking during special hour on Tuesday, lawmakers deplored lack of consensus among the political parties for the smooth functioning of the House and said the political parties are not serious about the ongoing peace process.

“It is sad that we have forgotten the need of consensus among the political parties and the need for taking the peace process forward,” said UML lawmaker Rabindra Adhikari speaking at the special hour Tuesday.

Madhesi People´s Rights Forum (MPRF) Chairman Upendra Yadav criticized the new government for inducting MPRF parliamentary party leader Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar into the cabinet without the party´s approval.
