Host team wins New Diamond Cup

KATHMANDU, Feb 7: Host Shivam New Diamond Academy (NDA) has clinched the first Shivam New Diamond Cup National Open Women’s Volleyball Tournament defeating the departmental team Armed Police Force (APF) 3-1 in the final on Tuesday.

KATHMANDU, Feb 7: Host Shivam New Diamond Academy (NDA) has clinched the first Shivam New Diamond Cup National Open Women’s Volleyball Tournament defeating the departmental team Armed Police Force (APF) 3-1 in the final on Tuesday. 


At the Dhorpatan Volleyball Training Center in New Buspark, APF beat NDA 26-24 in the first set, but the host recovered brilliantly to win the second, third and fourth set 25-23, 28-26, 25-23 respectively. NDA’s Pratibha Mali contributed 44 points from spike, five from service and three from block. Likewise, Kripa Adhikari added six from service, while Lalita Nath collected 10 from spike, and a point each from service and block.

For APF, Sarswati Chaudhary played brilliantly and helped her team earning 21 points from spike, three from service and two from block. The other APF players who played very well were Reshma Bhandari and Nemika Chaudhary. Bhandari got 12 from spike and a point each from service and block, while Nemika contributed 11 points from spike, two from block and a point from service. 


NDA was rewarded with Rs 151,000 for winning the title and APF bagged Rs 101,000. 


The other departmental team Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) saw off TOPS Higher Secondary School 25-16, 26-24, 25-21for the third place battle earlier on the day. TAC got Rs 51,000, while TOPS was prized with a purse of Rs 21,000. 


Mali was named the best player of the tournament and was rewarded with Rs 10,000. Likewise, APF’s Sarswati Chaudhary, TAC’s Sangam Mahato, NDA’s Lalita Nath, Panamika Rai, Sabina Shrestha and Kripa Adhikari were declared the best spiker, the best blocker, the best quicker, the best server, the best libero and the best setter of the tournament respectively. They received Rs 5,000 each.  NDA’s Kumar Rai was named the best coach of the tournament and got Rs 15,000.
