BUTWAL, Dec 23: General Secretary of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Bishnu Prasad Poudel has claimed that the House of Representatives (HoR) would not be reinstated.

Addressing the party’s provincial gathering of Lumbini on Wednesday, General Secretary Poudel directed the party leaders and cadres to prepare themselves for new elections.

Poudel argued that the main reason behind the party split is the 'paper of baseless accusation' brought against Party Chairman KP Sharma Oli by another Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal. He also accused Dahal of breaching the consensus reached before full unification of the party.

He said that Chairman and Prime Minister Oli had made several gestures for consensus and unification of the party. “Prime Minister Oli has clearly stated that he would hand over party leadership from the general convention or the special general convention," he said, adding Dahal, however, was not ready for both options.

Poudel also said that the two sides could not reach any consensus although 77 rounds of the meetings of the party’s Secretariat were held.

Addressing the gathering, the party’s Standing Committee member Shankar Pokhrel complained that although the NCP-led government had done numerous positive works, party leaders themselves tried to downplay those achievements and undermine the party’s unity.

Pokharel also hailed Prime Minister Oli's positive steps like import of electricity from India to end load shedding, trade and transit agreement with China, constructions of postal highway, airports and hospitals. PM and Chairman Oli was cornered since he took leadership to issue the new map of Nepal, according to Pokhrel.
