Hong Kong beat Nepal in ACC T20 semifinal

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, July 10: Hong Kong defeated Nepal by 7 wickets in the semifinal of the ACC Women´s Twenty20 Cricket Championship at the Bayemas Oval on Friday. [break]



Nepal scored 76/6 in 20 overs after Hong Kong won the toss and invited Nepal to bat first. Nepal lost opener Rekha Rawal in the third over. Godiva Li bowled Rekha for 2 at the score of 8. However second wicket partnership of (54) between Neera Rajopadhyay and Maya Rawat rescued Nepal. Neera Rajopadhyay topscored with 28 and Maya Rawat remained unbeaten with 25 but Hong Kong bowlers kept the run-rate under control. After scoring 31/2 in 10 overs, Nepal got another 31 in the next five overs but lost the momentum in the final five overs losing four wickets and scoring only 14 runs. Neetu Thapa remained unbeaten on 3 while Ritu Kanaujiya, Rashmi Thapa and Sonu Khadka did not open their account. Connie Wong took two wickets for Hong Kong.



In reply, Hong Kong needed only 16.1 overs to register a thumping seven-wicket victory. Chan Sau Har topscored for Hong Kong with 22 runs. Player of the match Connie Wong scored unbeaten 15 runs and Emma Phillips contributed unbeaten 11 runs for the winning side.



In another semifinal Thailand defeated China by 27 runs to book its place in the Saturdays´ final against Hong Kong. Batting first after winning the toss, Thailand posted 115 runs for the loss of 2 wickets in stipulated 20 overs, riding on S Tippoch´s unbeaten 36 runs N Boochatham´s unbeaten 21 runs. China succumbed under the pressure to score around run a ball and could muster only 88 runs losing 9 wickets in 20 overs. S Tippoch was adjudged player of the match.



Nepal now play China for the third place on Saturday.
